First off, my apologies to you for my tardiness in getting this issue out. I have a lot to tell you this month, it's taken some extra time to prepare. This issue also marks our conversion from an ascii based newsletter (plain 'ol text), to the new HTML (glitzy!) format. I hope you find it a bit more appealing, cleaner, and a little easier on your eye's.
Recently I've noticed a slew of online sites offering to send your ads to over 8 million "opt-in" email addresses. Over the last few weeks I've received dozens of questions about this marketing technique. So I put on my undercover journalism hat and did some poking around. Here's what I found. The majority of these sites, and I do say majority, because there are a few reputable companies who do rent their "opt-in lists" which are truly "opt-in" and do offer a quality "targeted" member base.
However, of the dozen or so "blast your ad to 8 million people sites" that I have reviewed, this has got to be one of the most misleading marketing techniques I've seen. I must admit, it's a great "headline", who wouldn't want to send out their ads to 8 million people spam free? The fact is, the majority of "new to the net" users will learn a hard lesson in online marketing by using one of these services. This is why I am devoting this article to this "editorial" section. These are my views, my experiences, and my opinions. I am not suggesting that all opt-in services operate the same way. The objective of this article is to create awareness, and inform you of my personal experiences within this particular marketing/advertising segment. As an online marketer for over 6 years (9 years offline), I'm quite involved in all aspects of internet marketing. I have found the majority of these "safe-list" member sites to be of poor quality. Many of these sites are touting their services as having the ability to send your email ads to thousands of "safe-lists" or "spam free--opt in email lists". So what's going on here? How can they claim that? Well, to an extent, it is true. You can email your offer to thousands of other subscribers. What most of them don't tell you is that (typically) you must first join all of these mailing lists yourself--before you can email to them. On top of that, access to all of these lists are free anyway, I'll show you in a minute... But would you really want them? Why would you subject yourself to receiving 1000's of solicitations every day? It may appear you're sending your ad out to thousands of email addresses, and in fact you are... But is anyone reading them? I think not. The reason the majority of these people subscribe is solely to email their ads to others on the list. So if everyone join the list purely to send out ads--who's reading them? Who would want to? Many of these "safe-list" sites are claiming things like.. "Your ad is sent to 1,000,000 opt in subscribers!" "These subscribers are opportunity seekers, looking for products just like yours!" The bottom line is... these opt-in subscribers have chosen to subscribe to these lists solely for the purpose of emailing their ads to others on the same list. So in effect, you have 1,000,000 people all emailing ads to each other--which are rarely read by anyone else. Still, everyday, thousands of unsuspecting newbies are shelling out $50 or more, sometimes on a monthly basis for the privilege of emailing their ads into cyber nowhere. Hey, don't get me wrong... I'm always up for a new innovative marketing concept... but folks.. this one stinks! Most of these "safe-list" marketing systems utilize the services of other (third party) sites like:
The majority of these names have never requested to be on the mailing lists in the first place. All too often I see dozens of new marketers fall victim to the confusion. Don't let this happen to you. Yes, sending email to your own list of prospects, readers, and subscribers will be one of the most responsive group of potential customers you will ever find. But do it smart, know for yourself that every email you send is truly "opt-in". This will take some time and effort on your part, there is no easy way out. Here are some resources to get you started: http://www.listbot.com - offers free maling list hosting. Users can subscribe to your list right from your web site. http://www.yesmail.com - offers legitimate targeted email address rentals. Rent a targted list from 100% "opt-in" subscribers. http://www.postmasterdirect.com - log in and create your own targeted mailing list, they charge by the amount of emails you wish to send.

Sales are produced by people. It doesn't matter if you're selling lemonade to tourists or airplanes to governments. Even on the Internet, every sale is the result of a live person or group of people deciding to buy from you. Unfortunately, many decide NOT to buy from you. Would you like to increase the number of sales you get? It's easier than you think. There are only 4 reasons why people decide not to buy from you. Once you understand the psychology behind each of them you can implement proven strategies to neutralize their impact and get a higher percentage of sales. REASON #1: NO NEED People in our modern society rarely buy something because they need it. They buy something because they want it. When prospective customers say, "I don't need your product" they really mean, "I don't want it". How can you avoid losing these sales? Target your marketing. Promote your business only among people likely to have a strong desire for the benefits provided by your product or service. EXAMPLE: A network marketer will lose money by advertising a business opportunity in the local newspaper. Most readers aren't interested in a business opportunity. Instead, she can generate a lot of business by advertising in trade magazines, newsletters or ezines read by opportunity seekers. REASON #2: NO MONEY Consumers and businesses rarely avoid buying something because they don't have (or can't get) the money needed to make the purchase. They avoid buying what you offer because they place a higher priority on spending money for something else. You can get these sales by making YOUR product or service their priority. What is the most pressing problem you can solve for prospects in your targeted market? Dramatize how they'll feel when your product or service eliminates that problem. Make it so important they'll move your offer to the top of their priority list. TIP: You can demonstrate a low cost for your product or service by breaking down the price to its lowest time increment. For example, "Enjoy all of this for less than 90 cents a day" (for something priced at $325 a year). REASON #3: NO HURRY Many people tend to procrastinate after they decide to buy something. As time passes some will forget why your product or service is so important. They'll be distracted by other priorities and forget all about you. You'll lose the business. You can avoid losing sales because of "no hurry" by rewarding customers for taking immediate action and penalizing those who don't. For example, offer a special discount price or a special bonus for ordering before a deadline. REASON #4: NO TRUST Most people fear losing something they have more than they desire gaining something they want. This fear causes many people to avoid buying something they really want. They're reluctant to buy because they might not get what they expect from your product or service and they'll lose their money. You have to remove this perceived risk to avoid losing business because of "no trust". Here are 3 way I've found effective for any business... 1. Eliminate the risk with an unconditional money back guarantee. 2. Provide reassurance with testimonials from satisfied customers. 3. Increase your credibility by allowing customers to communicate directly with you. For example, give them your direct phone number. You'll only get calls from serious prospects who want the reassurance of dealing with a real person. There are only 4 reasons why people decide not to buy from you. You can increase your sales and profits by understanding the thinking behind each reason and implementing proven strategies to neutralize their impact.
