"'Crackers for Your Soup!' is the perfect 'gift' book. Buy it for yourself to read and enjoy, then buy a case to give as gifts to everyone you know who has to prepare a homily a sermon or a talk. The 'keyword topic index' is a wonderful addition to make it easy for matching a story to the presentation. The ideal recipient is someone who enjoys a laugh or an 'ah-ha' moment in their reading." - Sandra Frericks - Blue Grass, Iowa - Davenport (Roman Catholic) Diocese
"A very useful resource for any speaker to add wit, wisdom and 'spice' to a speech." - Ian B. Edwards, Ph.D, DTM - 1995-96 President - Toastmasters International, Balcatta, Western Australia.
"When I heard that Roger Polt was coming out with a book, my first reflex was to buy a copy sight unseen. The idea of being able to tap into Polt's wisdom and wit in book form for my own use was truly exciting. Crackers for Your Soup! is a great read and a very useful tool when you're trying to keep an audience interested in what you have to say. Buy this book. I did." - Lyle George, President, George & Associates, International Business Consulting and Sales, Seattle, WA.
"Roger Polt is a great story teller. I have experienced with great amusement the colorful and captivating ways he weaves his tales. Now in written form he has captured those same skills to allow all of us to enjoy those stories at any time. With this book, we can now share these stories and bring smiles and laughter to others." - Dr. Phil E. Rzewnicki, Ohio State University, Columbus, OH.
"In this book, one can find old and new, for that time when you are at odds over a clincher, a message or that one thing that will sell your audience. Take it and run with it!" - Dwight Edstrom, 1998-99 Region IV Governor, Toastmasters International, Rapid City, SD.
Janie Schmidt, inspirational humorous speaker: - Soup's On!! Cold Iowa winters lend themselves to reading many different types of books... humor is one type that helps me cope with the cold and I highly recommend Roger Polt's book. Filled with stories and quips that provoke laughter, good feelings and memories, no matter how icy the streets get.
Don't let this one slip by. As you leaf through the pages you'll find stories old and new recorded for your use in any presentation of family/friend/fellowship gathering. Pass the vegetable soup, please...and the crackers!
Raymond Shawstad, lecturer and Toastmaster: - A book with an index! "Crackers for Your Soup!" can be read sequentially. If so, there will be pages with aching laughter and pages thought-provoking. The index of keywords is most valuable for the speaker in a hurry to find qotable material.
Pete Gardner, Toastmaster: - A Speakers best friend - Roger Polt has put together a handbook for speakers that is tough to beat. And it is also great reading for anyone else. Wonderful stories that hit the heart, or the funnybone. Must reading for all.
Paul Vice, Retail store manager: - Roger Polt, an amazing story teller, has put his tales in writing! I absolutely loved Roger Polt's "Crackers for Your Soup!" He has an amazing ability to tell stories, and has created a masterpiece! Weather you are a public speaker, or just looking for a little enjoyment, "Crackers for Your Soup" is chocked full of knee-slappers!
Norm Klootwyk, Professional speaker and comedian: - Great resourse! I thoroughly enjoyed the book. I have already used several of the quotes and one-liners in my presentations. So far I have only used material that jumped out at me as I read the book. But with the help of the key word/title index, it will be very easy to find additional material that I may need in future presentations. It also gives readers permission to reuse any of the material, which is almost unheard of in today's society.
Marlin Vrbas, Jail minister: - Truly enjoyable and a great resource. A must have. "Crackers..." is an easy, fun read and much more. With the convenient index, you can quickly find stories that relate to the topic at hand that can be easily adapted for adding zest to any presentation. Good job, Roger!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR - By Eric Smith of Wayne, NE:
Roger Polt, among other things, is your friend. He may not have met you yet, but he is your friend. His experiences in life are varied; singing, teaching, sales, sales training, management, husband of one, father of five. His speeches entertain, motivate and inspire. He has won and he has lost. He is an ordinary person with extraordinary interests. He is interested in people, words, situations, and how people respond to how those situations are described.
His work is not his life. His life is his faith. God has called him to encourage and to inspire others. His tool is humor. His humor stimulates the mind to change its focus from self to others. A conversation with Roger will take you from your own self-absorbed place to a world where animals talk and wear pants, and where people are dumber than you could ever be. He'll help you escape for a few minutes so that your mind is refreshed to deal with the pressing matters at hand.
His faith, his family, his openness, his love for the English language all combine in this person of Roger Polt to give all of us someone whose work is for us and not for himself. (Sure, he'll make a buck on this book but the workman is worth his hire.) You will be blessed by knowing Roger a little bit through Crackers for Your Soup!.
I am proud to say that Roger is my friend. And I know that if he put that on a resume it wouldn't do him a bit of good. He is your friend too. You just may not have met him yet.Other Places to go:
