1. People don’t have enough time. If you are going to get anywhere in MLM, you’d better be willing to work at least 50 hours a week. You’d better pound those phones and your friends seven days a week. Even if you have a full time job. This means all your family time and no weekends off. 2. Most people are not good salespeople and don’t want to be in sales anyway. All recruiting is, is sales. Just handing out tapes doesn’t make it. Everyone hands out tapes. If the people call you back whether from a tape or a classified, you are going to have to close them on joining. I have seen salesmen with over 20 years of sales experience that can’t make it in MLM. 3. The Average Person Can’t Take The Rejection. The typical scenario runs something like this. You go your friends and tell them about this great “opportunity”. After they quit laughing in your face (or even worse behind your back) they tell you “Thanks, but no thanks” or my favorite “After you make a lot of money, I’ll join”. So you run an opportunity ad. People respond and request information. You call them back and the first thing they ask is “Now which one are you?” About half the time it is just another networker searching against hope to find some way to market his or her program successfully. The other half you are among about 25 different opportunities they are looking at. Alot of these people won’t choose any of them. You will be treated quite rudely at times and almost always put off. 4. Most People Don’t Have Enough Money To Succeed In Networking. Most uplines have no idea how to market their program. They are struggling, just like everyone else. There is one “heavy hitter” I know of that brags about his $ 10,000 monthly check. The truth is he spends $ 12,000 each month for advertising and business expenses. 5. People don’t have the patience or the persistence to succeed in MLM. Everyone sells MLM as a “get rich quick” solution but can’t back up the claim with substance. You are told to recruit 10 which will recruit 10. Three months go by and you have only recruited 3 people that have recruited Zero people. Your upline lies to you and says “ your on the rite track” the big money is “just around the corner“.
Usually they suggest you go to some convention or buy their $ 150.00 course that will “guarantee your success”. These courses and conventions don’t really tell you anything you don’t already know, but they do get you “pumped up“ enough to stick through it a few more months or years of heavy losses. There are a lot of these networking “heavy hitters” that make a majority of their money selling their courses and other services to their downlines. Most people figure out what’s happening and quit. Okay. I've identified the five "major problems" with mlm, but these really are MAJOR "major problems"
C'mon, finding an answer to all the major reasons why people fail in MLM? I'd need a magic wand to do that.
Fix MLM? Who were we kidding? Some people just don't like it. They don't like to sell, they don't like meetings, they don't like working the phones, they haven't got the time and they don't like rejection. These were not just problems, they were conditions of human nature. How could we change that?
Problem Number 1. People don’t have enough time to succeed in MLM. Somehow it has to take a whole lot less time. Giving up evenings and weekends to work the phones or go to meetings was for the birds. Mail order seemed like the obvious answer but it would take more than just that. I had tried mail order already and I still had to close the prospects. Potential Solution: A mail based system that could be worked on a few hours per week. (call 24hrs. 716-420-1005)
Problem Number 2. Most people don’t like to sell. I had to get the sales portion out of it altogether if I were to make it possible for anyone to do it. Perhaps I could hire a team of telemarketers to do all the selling. Good idea, but very expensive to get going. That wasn’t the whole answer, but it was a start. Problem Number 3. The rejection you face. By eliminating sales I would eliminate a lot of the rejection. But I also wanted to eliminate the problem of ever having to approach friends and family. This type of rejection is the type that makes people quit in their first week. I didn’t want a program that said you don’t need to recruit friends before you signed, then after tells you how to recruit friends after you joined. Problem Number 4. Not having enough money to promote your business. This is a two part problem. 1. It always cost a lot more to advertise and attract each new member than what you make on each new member. and 2. It takes so long to get your business going that most people just run out of money before they get there. Whatever we came up with it must be structured so that every time you promote your business, that it generates more income than it costs. In other words if I spend $ 500 promoting my business I must have a consistant return of over $ 500, immediately. This can not be a return based on the assumption that the people that I recruit might recruit someone. This has to be real income generated rite up front. Problem Number 5. It takes to long to make money. Most people quit in disgust after a few months of trying. I have to make the program FAST, FAST, FAST! It has to be a program where it doesn’t take a whole lot of time to get into cash. A Solution to problem 4 helps, but it must go beyond that. To sum it all up: the program should only take a few hours a week maximum, not require any sales or subject you to any rejection, cost very little to get started, generate immediate cash and allow you and everyone to continuously market without ever having to take any additional money out of your pocket, and build a downline at an extremely rapid rate.
