How to Get a Quick Listing on Yahoo!

Have you tried getting your
site listed with Yahoo lately? Boy it
can be tough. While the EXCITE search engine now claims to have
surpassed Yahoo in daily page views, (we'll get to EXCITE in
the
next issue) a listing on Yahoo is definitely worth shooting for.
First off, Yahoo is an index
site which is much different than the
way a typical search engine works. Yahoo's data is compiled,
verified, and indexed by a real human. What does this mean to
you?
If you hope to get listed on
Yahoo, content is key!
Remember, a real person will be evaluating your site, and they
sole discretion if your site is worth listing.
UPDATE: Yahoo has recently
announced a new service for small
business where you pay $200 for so called "priority service".
The fee basically bumps you up in line, however it does NOT
guarantee a listing.
My FAVORITE CHEAT:
My favorite quick cheat for a quicker yahoo listing would be
to
register your site on Yahoo through their *local* index. The
editors
who review *local* listing submissions are a lot less swamped
than
the main listing people, and your site will still be available
on
yahoo's main index.

MAKING MONEY - Winning your customers' trust

You've got your web site, you've
got your product, you may even have
online ordering, a shopping cart, and your Grandmothers best
wishes.
If you don't have, or rather *earn* the *trust* of your visitors,
you may as well have never started.
While a good guarantee won't
hurt, it's only as good as the business
owner who stands behind it. On the internet...it's way too easy
for
anyone to set up shop today, and be gone tomorrow. So how do
you get
your visitors to trust you?
GET VALIDATED BY A THIRD PARTY!
While my first recommendation
would be joining up with the Better
Business Bureau, I have to share with you a pretty funny experience
I had with the them. While the BBB is probably the most respected
name when it comes to small business, (http://www.bbb.org) I
for one
had a different experience.
I registered our company with
the BBB about a year ago, I figured it
would validate our business as an established and trustworthy
company,
(which we are). So we paid the $300 membership fee, and a week
or so later I received our official black plastic plaque in the
mail.
- Huh? Where was our email which
was supposed to include a cool little
- graphic we could post on our
web site? Another two weeks went by,
- nothing. So I called and asked,
they said, "OH! we're working on it".
- Another three weeks went by
so I called again. "OH! I thought we took
- care of that". Anyway,
four phone calls and 2 fax's still hasn't gotten
- us anywhere. Maybe you'll
have better results. In any event, it's simply
- not worth my time anymore,
and I have moved on.
What I did find was a neat
little company called:

- This company specializes in
web-based businesses seeking to highlight
- their reputation, trustworthyness,
and willingness to abide by a straight-forward code of ethics.
While their online ordering system is a bit funky, it was still
quite easy to join, and the $30 subscription fee didn't hurt
a bit. I found them to be very responsive and professional.
What I also liked about this program was the ability to earn
a small commission on referring other webmasters to their site.
Overall I think it's a pretty neat concept... Make the web a
better place, earn your customers trust, and make a little pocket
change to boot!
